July 17, 2020 -- Month five of the pandemic. Ed Lorenzi would have been 97 years old today. Summer continues, with hot, humid weather, with occasional intense thunderstorms.

My pace of walking continues unabated, over a hundred miles a month. I have a 3.4 mile route that I use as my daily standard walk. I am going through shoes pretty quickly, maybe every three months.
I recently started a transition from online Mass with Hank at St Joseph to Fr Carl in person in Darboy, along with some streaming.
Covidphobia also remains rampant, primarily due to bad data, misinterpretations, rioters, and ignorant, biased journalists. Increased testing has resulted in increased positive tests but also a decline in deaths. Tests provide nothing of real value as perhaps as much as 80% of those testing positive never show any symptoms and are unlikely to transmit the virus. Basic hygiene and social distancing in crowds seem to be a pre3tty strong preventive strategy. Editors using terms like 'surge,' 'spike' or 'wave' create more hysteria and click bait than useful information.
The differences across the country make any sort of an American picture meaningless, and the figures and facts can vary tremendously between states, counties and cities. Liberal cities see to suffer the most, primarily due to politicians with more political correctness than practical policies.
