April 26, 2020. Memories from my time at Khmelnitsky, delivering lectures and meeting with university and civic leaders, trying to build a business school in western Ukraine.
In my earlier, globe-trotting days, such as the three round-the-world trips I made in my time as dean, one of my last big trips us to Ukraine, in a Fulbright technical specialist role to assist an aspiring business school in the western region of Ukraine.
I flew into Kiev, via Boston and Paris. Met at the airport, awe took a five-hour drive to the campus across some pretty basic roads, stopping along the way at a primitive roadside cafe for a meal. After about ten days, primarily on campus and in the city of Khmelnitsky, I took the night train to Kiev with the two men in the center bottom picture. We spent the day and a night in the city, meeting with a US official and touring some of the sites before I headed back to Baltimore.
In my time there, I offered daily lectures to students on a variety of business topics, including globalization, wealth creation, competitiveness, leadership, and prosocial behavior. I offered a plan called, "Basic elements of an American university business education.
