Jane combined her sense of service with an even earlier no-fear-of-flying to probably put more miles in the air by the age of 21 than I did before I reached fifty. This is one way I remember her, checking in on yet another flight. We had a good laugh the other night when she reminded me how on one of her last trips to Chile, I spontaneously upgraded her outbound flight when prompted to do so by the kiosk. This photo is (almost certainly) from that trip, that check in.

Seeing Jane fulfill her ambitions brings me joy. Being able to support her ambitions brings me joy as well. Seeing both girls move towards independence is an anxious yet wonderful experience, one of those passages in life -- like a birth, a marriage, a retirement -- that makes life complete.

Bon voyage, Jane. Just remember, we'll always have a place for you. Love, dad
