January 2019: The pain of winter

Just when I though that the worst of winter was behind us, after the tragic deaths of two long-time friends and another dreary storm, winter came back with a vengeance in the form of ice falling from a tree along Charles Street. The slush and ice covered the windshield for a fraction of a second before sliding off. I did not even realize at the time that a large chunk of ice had made a major dent in the roof, destroying it. Three days and two body shops later we had a workable solution to fix the damage.
The joy of this experience comes mostly from having good insurance and a good body shop. This is about the sixth time we have had a car in that shop in the past eighteen months. The accident itself seemed trivial at the time. No other care was involved, the surface of the windshield remained smooth and intact, the care was drivable and it took the work of an ethical safety glass repairman to point out what I had missed -- the $6500 in damage to the roof, which is now in the process of being cut off and replaced in its entirety.
Mark this one up to good karma.
