Strategies for business deans, 2005

I served two tenures as a business dean, first at the University of Central Arkansas from July 1992 to June 1995, then at Loyola University Maryland, from July 1995 to June 30, 2001. A few years later, the editor of the publication of the accrediting today (AACSB) asked me to share some thoughts with deans as they started their first tenure at a new school. This short article, listing eight key points to ask yourself before becoming a dean, are probably somewhat irrelevant today, where being woke is more important than being an academic leader, where social experimentation bests academic excellence, and where free speech is to be constrained rather than appreciated and guaranteed. But I still have my memories....
