In early July 1985, I led about 24 University of Kansas business students on an eight-week course of study to St Andrews (Scotland) and Manchester (England), to study with professors Fred Burton and Stan Paliwoda. Fr Bill Porter of the St Lawrence Catholic Center in Lawrence, Kansas and colleague Tony Redwood joined us for part of the trip.

Highlights (or even lowlights) of the travel to St Andrews included a delayed departure from Heathrow due to a misunderstanding with the coach driver, followed by an exchange of drivers in Manchester, halfway up to St Andrews. I ran home to St Andrews from the Cupar Highland games as part of a 'cool down' run with student Joy Meyen who had won the female title in the Cupar race. [Note: Joy went on to spend much of the summer running in similar events across Scotland.] Bill Porter, Tony Redwood and I played the Old Course -- my last full round of golf, now almost 35 years ago.

We drank a bit as well.
