It's official. Turned in my papers five days ago. Slept better these past four nights than I have in ages. Looking forward to the next thirty years of a rich, full life. Dena and I have progressed through the early stages of empty nesting, with a partial experience when Jane left for college in August 2014. I can still remember that day. It continued when Gaby departed for Westwood in September 2017; that was a memorable trip for many reasons: twelve pieces of luggage on Air Alaska, Uber and early arrival at UCLA. Then we sold Oak Farm a year ago, closing about the time Jane graduated from Marquette with highest honors, top of her class. So we saw the girls off to college (and Jane out of college) downsized and sold the house, and all dad had left was to figure out a separation strategy from Loyola after fifty years in the college classroom.

My last exam is 9 May. My last contract day is 30 June. People ask, "What's next?" and the road is wide open. We have our health, two marvelously independent daughters, and all the flexibility and options we could ever ask from God and life. Stay tuned for the next steps.
