In October 1960, I had just turned nine. I heard a lot about the Pittsburgh Pirates from my Aunt Ann when we visited Pittsburgh, probably more after the World Series than before. At that age I may have started my sneaky habit of trying to listen to a World Series game while in my Immaculate Conception classroom. I was in fourth grade that year. I found that I could take my small transistor radio and run an ear plug from the radio through my shirt sleeve, place my hand over my ear, and listen to the game. All the games were played during the day and the three mid-week games from Yankee Stadium would have been scheduled towards the end of my school day.

Nonetheless, the startling results of the series left an indelible impression on my young mind, one that persist to today, and one that heightened with this recent YouTube posting, forty-two minutes of highlights from those memorable games.

Baseball reference provides the following summary, plus more here.

Here are the Pirate batting records for the series and the season. Note the highlighted record of Elroy Face, a great relief pitcher and a 7-for-17 hitter during the season, batting .412.

Wikipedia has a comprehensive verbal summary of the seven games.
