We took final ownership of Touchdown Drive one week ago. It has been a hectic seven days. As I had noted to Dena before the move, as complicated and frustrating as the build, preparation and move had been, the process of moving in, finishing the home, building a community of friends, nailing down the infrastructure of private and public services, and more would be just as time-consuming and occasionally frustrating.

The first few days blessed us with great weather. The basic start-up tasks -- driver license, auto registration, grocery store, deliveries, furniture assembly -- went pretty smoothly. "Learning our way around town" was another task -- best routes, traffic patterns, roundabouts -- was another experience.

We have no sidewalks or curbs in our neighborhood and expect none for another eighteen months. That leaves us with ragged edges to our lots and, as with other new homes, roughly grade lots full of sticky clay soil. This is anathema to the master of the emerald domain but I will restrain myself until I can get some green going, probably in April.

It is almost time to start battening dow the hatches for winter. After those sweet, warm first days, a cold rain and blustery wind over the weekend even revealed the rare snow flake, if not an omen at least a precursor of what locals tell us has been predicted to be an unusually severe winter. The good news is that we have no need to get out for work, we can provision our massive refrigerator, and we have no sidewalks to shovel!

Looking forward to the joy of our second week in our new village and home.
