Yes, it is bitterly cold. I walked outside in zero degree wind chill today, with clear streets and sunny skies. We have it good compared to much of the upper Midwest and the Northeast. And I can keep my heart warm with the joyful memories of the twenty-three warm years at the Oaks at Five Farms. As sad as the time of departure was, memories of the great times we had for so many years are forever. It is the only home Jane and Gaby ever knew. It was our first explicit exposure to the empty nest, a completely empty nest.
I tend to view my life in arcs, from nine years to earn three degrees, eight years at Kansas, six years at Marquette, three at Central Arkansas, and then this current major arc that commenced in July 1995. I look forward to the next arc and to seeing the three young women in my life grow into their own rewarding arcs.
