I am skeptical of the pseudo-science of the compeer modeling climate "scientists," and it is especially silly when the media, led on by these so-called scientists, try to identify any extreme variation in the weather as proof of climate change, with no context, no understanding of variance, no true historical perspective. It is an abomination, a misuse of both science and the public trust, along with a mistaken sense of wholly misplaced self importance.

Today is one of those steamy 90+ degree days that help to explain how Appleton holds the American record for heat index, 148 degrees, a fact noted in the Post-Crescent in July 2019, shortly before we moved here.

Separate from the heat, my introduction to Harrison was moving along smartly only to have the six-month introduction abruptly disrupted by misplaced pandemic policies, another one of those misapplication of "science" by "experts." Yet for all of the terror, uncertainty and malaise of these past two years, that time introduced me -- rather re-introduced me -- to a traditional sense of religion, bringing me back to the rosary and Mass, at one point even daily for weeks on end, and now just three to five times a week. That practice, along with my work with the education committee, playground duty and CYO basketball, has established the sense of purpose that most people seek and often lack in retirement.

Face it, there are phases to retirement, from vacation, to floundering, to a sense of purpose, to a resolution of life, just as there are retirees in markedly different financial conditions, i.e., struggling mightily, hanging in and hanging on, doing okay, and prospering comfortably. Methinks we have achieved the fourth level of the latter conditions and the third phase of the former sequence, even if it is limited to a renewed sense of religion.

For now I have Franklin on my schedule this weekend and I am thinking about the Eden reunion in late July, maybe a visit to Jane in Juneau in August, perhaps a romantic trip to Florence with Dena for my birthday and a trip to NYC in November for Gaby's marathon, before returning to Edinburgh in May next year. Time to expand my horizon, mentally and geographically.

Meanwhile, as the images here portray vividly, those fraudulent pols and 'scientists' continue to be bad actors when it comes to climate.
