From majority rule to minority identity tyranny in one election

We have moved from a country with common values, negative rights, the proverbial melting pot, and the majority rules to minority rights and now to minority rules, with cancel culture, intersectionality, positive rights, and tribalism. Republicans and Democrats were not that different, and changes of party in the WhiteHouse were balanced by the inherently conservative nature of the two other branches of government. Smoke-filled rooms -- for all their faults -- and open conventions clearly did a much better job of nominating presidents than do primaries where a tiny minority (vote) in tiny states can drive a nomination. The public acts more like crowds at the Roman circus and presidents more like emporeers, governing my mandates and executive orders. We are barely a republic or a democracy anymore. Instead we are a bunch of market segment tribes pandered to my a federal government convinced of the wisdom of the swamp by practicing the real tragedy of the commons, i.e., when everybody owns a socialist piece of the town square, all the woke capitalism in the world won't combat the rot from within, all under the aegis of virtue-signaling politicians playing Pontius Pilate and sacred justice warriors burning down their homes and golden gooses. When hundreds and hundreds of NOT non-violent protests receive a pass from the press, the leftist pols and Fauci while even the FBI notes that January 6 was a random melee, we end up giving emmy's (now withdrawn) to a governor who seemed uninterested in the plight of nursing home patients in order to serve nursing home owners, a recalled California governor owned by the PG&E and Hollywood lobbyists, and a chaotic president-led disaster in Kabul -- Biden's potential Kabul hostages could make Carter's Tehran look like a holiday -- "Houston, we have a problem." But as Nancy Pelosi waves off the serious nature of the problems she fosters, "Let them eat $13 a pint ice cream."
