Mark Steyn has quipped about rich countries "being rich enough to be this stupid."Yes, elite colleges can be this stupid, rich as they are.

A recent comment I made in the Wall Street Journal comments section following an article on the growing wokeness of universities in promoting equity, not that anyone knows what that would look like if or when we were ever to achieve it. The Supreme Court justice claimed that while he could not define pornography, he'd know it when he'd see it; social justice warriors can't define it nor can they tell us what it would look like were we to see it.

It's relatively easy and painless -- for the richly endowed schools -- to give everybody equal outcomes in terms of awarding degrees to everyone. Or, for that matter, equal opportunity via admissions, by granting admissions regardless of merit. Then can even pretend to provide equal education, but to do that you have to shift major resources to educating the unprepared. And the millionaire college officials can feel smug about their virtue signaling and sense of social justice. But none of this is sustainable.
