A great week in a great city. Enjoyed every minute.
Edinburgh has almost mystical power over me. I made three or four brief personal visits to the city between 1973 and 1988, then three longer, family visits in 2014, 2015 and now 2019. The earliest and the most recent trips were in summer. Late fall and winter trips can be more challenging, with as little as six good hours of sunlight each day, and more rain. Late summer -- September -- for the most recent trip was perfect: good weather, less crowded (after the August festival), and a great hotel -- Mode, in New Town.
Gaby pointed us to Dean Village and the accompanying Leith Water path that gave us plenty of picturesque sights, good exercise, and a feel for the less touristy sections of the city, e.g., the Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle.
Most do this again. Highly recommended. Great joy.
