A better way to save the planet -- for everybody, for good, and for less....

Four years ago, SOCIETY published my simple yet politically incorrect solution to the great carbon debate. I've attached the article below. It's worth a read even if you're not a policy wonk, and just interested in seeing how we can reduce carbon and raise tax revenues, without trading carbon credits.
In brief, the best way to reduce carbon is to tax it heavily. At the same time, to make this a 'fair' tax, the regressive nature of a carbon tax must be accompanied by the abandonment of another outdated and regressive tax, Social Security. To wit, add the equivalent of a $2 a gallon federal tax on gasoline to all forms of burning carbon fuels in all forms of vehicles, and eliminate the two 6.25% taxes, one paid by the employee and the other paid by the employer, producing a 12.5% raise for any person earning under $120,000, and giving them the option to reduce their consumption of carbon-based fuels, this saving money and "the environment" and reducing the demand for carbon-based fuels that will, at some point, likely be exhausted. No need to set mileage restrictions on automobiles, i.e., eliminate CAFE standards in their entirety.
