Waiting for sod!

After eight months of mud, today we have progress towards a lawn. The prep crew arrived this morning to spray the topsoil, prepare the main surface, set the edging, dig up the weeds along the street, and have the lot ready for sod -- tomorrow.

Our lot is 0.521 acres. Take out the easement area (125' x 40'), the footprint of the house, and the driveway area, and that leaves about 12,000 square feet to sod and seed. With sidewalks and curbs at least a year away, we are seeding the area that we will later cede to the sidewalks and the tea feet or so of grass between the sidewalk and the curb. More sod will likely follow the curb and sidewalk installation, perhaps next summer.
After months of watching and generally avoiding the sticky clay surface, the lot is already showing an aesthetic improvement, especially with the previous weedy mess along the street. Then I will have to prepare my watering strategy, get a permit to water a new lawn, and hope for a lot of rain to do the work naturally. I am prepared to devote the next thirty days -- pandemic or not -- to ensuring a wet, lush, green lawn of sod and seed.
It will be great to be back to an emerald domain. To follow will be a small deck, maybe 10' x 18' outside the back sliding doors. For now, I need to hear from the deck contractor and to get Betty and the Acura into the shop this week for oil changes. And the temperature could hot 85 degrees today!
